Frequently Asked Questions

Company

Who is FROMA?

FROMA, Inc. is a Montana company, founded in 2013, that designs and makes critical-duty equipment for airborne, military free-fall, and helicopter operations.

What is FROMA’s CAGE code?

7C1L6.

Are FROMA products made in the USA?

Yes, all FROMA products are made in the U.S. and are Berry Amendment compliant.

SOF Harness

What is the SOF Harness?

A patented, adjustable X-strap parachute pack harness for airborne and MFF operations. Standard USSOCOM issue and USASOC approved. SOF Harness System

What’s the NSN for the SOF Harness?

NSN 8465-01-668-2878 covers the SOF Harness System (HA30-OD) and the harness-only component (HA20-OD).

How is the SOF Harness different from an H-Harness or HSPR?

Its X-shaped, diagonal strap design fits far more packs than just ALICE or MOLLE, and because it uses PASS Straps it can be set for single-point or dual-point release, ideal for MFF.

Pack harness vs. parachutist’s drop bag (PDB)?

A PDB is heavier, pricier, and slow to de-rig. A harness keeps the pack usable and de-rigs in seconds.

PASS Straps

What are PASS Straps?

The Parachute Attaching Strap System (PA25-OD): adjustable straps that attach a pack or harness to a jumper’s parachute harness. USASOC certified and patented.

Are PASS Straps single-point or dual-point release?

Both. You switch with a quick Velcro strap adjustment.

Do PASS Straps work for MFF?

Yes. They’re designed for nearly all modern MFF rigs.

How do I lower the pack?

Pull straight out from the chest with one hand, or rig each side to release separately (dual-point). The pack then separates freely and lowers on the HPT Lowering Line. See the PASS Rigging Instructions (PDF).

Will PASS Straps fit my jump pack?

They’re designed for jump packs with built-in attachment points. For other packs, use the SOF Harness.

HELA and HELA Adjust Helo Lanyards

What is a helo lanyard?

A short restraint that connects an operator to a hard point inside a helicopter or aircraft, limiting movement when no other restraint system is available. HELA is FROMA’s cut-resistant helo lanyard.

How do I know when to retire a HELA?

If the outer sheath is cut or worn through, a red inner layer is exposed. When you see red, stop using the lanyard.

How strong is HELA?

Overall breaking strength is about 4,200 lb (19 kN).

How long is HELA?

24 inches compressed and 30 inches extended. Custom sizes are available. For an adjustable-length option, see HELA Adjust.

What hardware comes on HELA?

Standard HELA has a sewn-in ISC snaphook on one end and a looped end on the other, with a heavy-duty Ronstan quick-release snap shackle girth-hitched to the loop. The shackle can be removed so the loop can be girth-hitched directly. Custom configurations are available.

What’s the difference between HELA and HELA Adjust?

HELA is a fixed-length, two-layer, cut-resistant lanyard. HELA Adjust lets you change the length one-handed, from 18 to 33 inches.

How do I adjust HELA Adjust?

Pull the tail to tighten with low friction, and flick the adjuster to loosen. Both work one-handed.
